Slumbering Giants
an enneagram of presence workshop series for type 9s

Type nines are recognised as "the giants" on the enneagram map. Amongst other things, it refers to the massive energy field and proportionately massive influence that that energy has on those around, even when fast asleep to themselves. The "game" that many type 9s play, while sleepwalking, is believing that "if I do nothing, if I don't get involved, no harm done". This is completely inaccurate. There is an significant energetic impact one way or another, both on the individual and those around.
If they are operating from an unhealthy autopilot state within their familiar strategies, (e.g. accommodating everything, avoiding conflict, going along, keeping things peaceful), that takes a phenomenal amount of energy and drains the system. The blind-spot is that, it is not just draining the individual's system (resource-exhaustion, collapse of drive, disengagement, inner flatline, inability to re-ignite system...), but it also drains the wider system around them - impacting the people they care about and work with. The presence of unhealthy, heavy 9-energy has a "black-hole" effect that is very extremely difficult for others. The harm caused may not be intentional, but it is real.
These workshops focus the spotlight of presence on pivotal autopilot patterns that one can easily fall asleep in. In a series of 1-week programmes, we will open up a deep exploration of one key pattern at a time, and room to disentangle from that.
The workshops are designed specifically for anyone operating from the enneagram nine base. The programme director, and the co-facilitation team are all type nines themselves, and all with a particular interest and commitment to bringing clarity and support for their fellow type 9s on the journey. The co-facilitators are insightful enneagram teachers, as well as graduates from the 2020 Giants Awakening Journey and active Agents of Presence. This is one of the powerful elements built into the fabric of these programmes - the presence of this uniquely qualified and purposefully committed team, to stand by the participants.
In the rush and responsibilities of everyday adult life, it is a difficult task indeed to pull out of the momentum and find time to effectively make the root-level changes needed, small or large, as directed by that inner call to awaken. These workshops are an invitation to do just that, to take the opportunity to efficiently deal with at least one thing in a way that creates lasting change, in the process nourishing oneself and laying in new foundations to support a more wholesome everyday life. A day, a weekend, a week of time, to whole-heartedly and fully engage with oneself, in response to that inner call, is an opportunity worth serious consideration.

The programme is designed to be flexible, allowing each person to determine what best suits them in their current circumstances (commitments, time availability, internal stamina, level of exploration required at this time). The Saturday workshop can be engaged with as a stand-alone 1-day event. For deeper, more intensive exploration, the weekend and full week options are available.

NB - The Saturday Workshop is open for all enneagram types
The Saturday workshop is for anyone dealing with this autopilot pattern, regardless of enneagram type. For enneagram type 9s, the exposure to this pattern as expressed and experienced in other types, the common ground and the differences, will provide crucial relativity and perspective. For anyone who is exploring whether they may be a type 9, but is still uncertain, this day will be of great value. It will also be a good introductory day for type 9 participants who plan to stay for the weekend or full week programme. It will also provide the time to settle in, before the spotlight shifts more directly (and possibly more uncomfortably) to themselves, in the deeper exploration over the course of the week.
Entering 9 territory
For type 9s who are taking their exploration to the next level, and willing to enter the "9-only space" provided on Sunday. After the foundation created on the Saturday, the Sunday opens up more space to access usually invisible elements and threads that are woven into these auto-pilot strategies, as used by type 9s.
With the guidance and support of the teachers, type 9s themselves, this day is a day for the courageous 9... for they will enter the mirrored room where comfortable invisible elements may become uncomfortably visible. However, in the interest of awareness, which is a necessary part of presence, and ultimately essential for that true freedom and true peace one is seeking, these spaces are worth the occasional, careful visit.
On Sunday, we further explore "the inside story" on why and how type 9s use the pattern in question.

This is a good option for anyone wanting to really dive deep and make the most of the support and protection of the space provided here.
The foundational weekend segment is followed by 3 days break (from group work), providing time for things to simmer and integrate after the weekend. Some participants may want to incorporate 1:1 work for themselves, during the week. This can be done during this time.
The Thursday and Friday programmes bring in practical measures and next steps, as to how to engage these patterns in a more healthy way, from a state of presence, with awareness of one's presence.

We take a closer look at what is normal and healthy, and the value of that. The exploration will move to how individuals are using this pattern as a way to compensate or defend against something else, and if we are asleep to that - the misunderstandings, injuries and pain that is caused.
The goal of this week is to provide more perspective, clarity and resource for each participant, so that they may have more room to consciously navigate life-situations with or without the strategy of being accommodating, from a place of greater presence, aware of the impact of their presence.

This rating is a conglomerate assessment of a number of factors and the degree to which participants can be expected to draw on their resources. Some of these components include demand on time, need for privacy, need to step out of everyday routine, mental energy, emotional energy, physical energy, stamina, concentration, capacity to allow change, depths being accessed (from surface to very deep) and changes in levels of consciousness (shift from minimal to significant), degree of blind-spot work, the need for rest before the workshop and the need for rest and recovery after the workshop.
Each person is different and will experience things differently, depending as well on their state of being and energy levels at the time of the workshop. However, in general, this workshop will demand a fair degree of energy to get the full benefit from it.
The days will be a very saturated, and the time will go by very quickly. We will be concentrating into one day, what can be easily be spread over a week... and into 1 week, what could take 3 months. Coming in prepared for this is helpful.

Enneagram Nine Territory
For anyone taking the weekend workshop option, this is the 2nd day of the 2 days.The exploration from Saturday deepens, to explore more specifically from the enneagram nine territory. Some highlights of this day:
- Type 9s - autopilot use of the invisibility cloak, operating the pattern while sleepwalking

- Participants will be invited into "the mirrored room" where usually invisible aspects can be glimpsed:

The processes of the day will bring in much more space for the heart and body domains, releasing the habitual pressure placed on the head-space to fix things from understanding. Rather, the invitation is to transform things by direct experience and engagement.

This is an option for anyone not able to attend the live-workshop. Obviously, it is not a replacement for the group workshop and one will not have the momentum and power that group work provides to efficiently tackle the task at hand in the shortest time. However, a 1:1 solo workshop has it's advantages and can be of great benefit.
For participants who have experienced the live workshop and wish to include an additional 1:1 component, they have that option available on request.

This is what we are hoping for, but it is also wise to bear this in mind in advance, so that you are prepared for the deep integrations you will be experiencing. For anyone taking up the invitation to treat the week as a retreat for themselves, this will provide one of the most favourable circumstances to really soak in the impact and integrate the effects of the workshop sessions.

Saturday: open for all enneagram types
The Saturday workshop is for anyone experiencing the grip of the autopilot pattern, regardless of enneagram type. For enneagram type 9s, the exposure to this pattern in other types, the common ground and the differences, will provide crucial relativity and perspective. For anyone who is exploring whether they may be a type 9, but is still uncertain, this day will be of great value. It will also provide the time to settle in, before the spotlight shifts more directly (and possibly more uncomfortably) to themselves as 9s, in the deeper exploration over the course of the week.
Enneagram Nine Territory
For anyone taking the weekend workshop option, this is the 2nd day of the 2 days. The exploration from Saturday deepens, to explore more specifically from the enneagram nine territory. Some highlights of this day:

The processes of the day will bring in much more space for the heart and body domains, releasing the habitual pressure placed on the head-space to fix things from understanding. Rather, the invitation is to transform things by direct experience and engagement.
NB - The Sunday (and the rest of the week's programme) is open for enneagram 9 participants only.
This is a good option for anyone wanting to really dive deep and make the most of the support and protection of the space provided.

Solo (1:1) Workshop Options
If unable to make a particular group-workshop on the date, this is an option.These solo workshops can range between 1 - 5 days, together with/or as a series of 90min 1:1 sessions over a period of 4 - 8 weeks.
For participants of the group workshop, this will also be available to them to deepen and supplement the group experience, in a customised segment that is tailored for them as an individual.

This rating is a conglomerate assessment of a number of factors and the degree to which participants can be expected to draw on their resources. Some of these components include demand on time, need for privacy, need to step out of everyday routine, mental energy, emotional energy, physical energy, stamina, concentration, capacity to allow change, depths being accessed (from surface to very deep) and changes in levels of consciousness (shift from minimal to significant), degree of blind-spot work, the need for rest before the workshop and the need for rest and recovery after the workshop.
Each person is different and will experience things differently, depending as well on their state of being and energy levels at the time of the workshop. However, in general, this workshop will demand a fair degree of energy to get the full benefit from it.
The days will be a very saturated, and the time will go by very quickly. We will be concentrating into one day, what can be easily be spread over a week... and into 1 week, what could take 3 months. Coming in prepared for this is helpful. (As a side note - this is another reason the DIY module is included - so that one can relax into the experience of the day without need to try and remember it all or get it all in one go.)
For type 9s, the added experience of the mirrored 9-only space, has quite an impact. This is what we are hoping for, but it is also wise to bear this in mind in advance, so that you are prepared for the deep integrations you will be experiencing. For anyone taking up the invitation to treat the week as a retreat for themselves, this will provide one of the most favourable circumstances to really soak in the impact and integrate the effects of the workshop sessions.

The Saturday workshop can be engaged with as a stand-alone 1-day event. For deeper, more intensive exploration, the weekend and full week options are available.

This week can be treated as series of workshops, woven into other activities during the week. However, if at all possible, it is highly recommended that participants approach this week as a retreat for themselves. With some deliberate attention to clearing the time and stepping out of routine engagements. Each participant can determine for themselves, how to handle this week.

Questions that one may have, but not get around to asking...
Ironically, you will find yourself in good company, with the sympathy of others that share your experience of this. Group work is daunting and difficult for quite a few people.
Here is our recommendation, don't think about it too much. Wait till you are there, and then allow the process to guide you into a zone that's comfortable enough, regarding the group. The workshops are designed to take this into consideration.
Although participants are expected to interact and engage, we are also very alert and sensitive to each individual's readiness and boundaries and are always responsive and respectful of that. You can determine for yourself, how far you are able to go with yourself and with others.
Each individual is unique and takes in the experience differently. So if, at any time during the process, you are experiencing difficulty that is really interfering with your experience, just let us know and we will help you out.
On the encouraging side... even for those that are clear that group work is not their favourite thing, they do often pitch up anyway because they have found that the group energy and exposure often helps fast-track certain things. The mirroring, similar or different perspectives from others, glimpses into others' experiences of the same challenges... all this provides insights, break-through opportunites, clarity, opportunites for understanding and compassion. And perhaps, most importantly, a chance to recognise and remember again, that you are not alone on the journey.
And if all this is not enough to overcome the dread of group work, you still have the option of the stand-alone DIY self-study module, on this topic. And / or the option to request a 1:1 workshop or programme for yourself.
Privacy for yourself in these workshops is crucial.
If you think the space you will be using will compromise your privacy, check the following:
Step 1: Really consider your options again.
- have you overlooked alternative venues?
- have explicitly asked your your family (or friends) for their support? (This is often side-stepped because it feels uncomfortable and too much to ask for. However, it may be a very necessary step for you in your own progress, to be able to do that. Very often, they will volunteer to take themselves out for the day, or give you the room you need for the few hours of the programme. If you don't ask, you won't know.)
Step 2: Make the best of it.
- Only if you have really checked off step one.
- Let us know as well, that you are in such a position, so that we will take that into consideration during the workshop.
- Earphones are a must... this would be for the protection of the other participants. But also, to give you a way to block out some of the outside distractions.
- Position yourself in such a way that you are screened from people walking past. You may want to use a temporary screen of some sort to do that.
If it really is a situation where you cannot concentrate and others have some demand on your attention, it may not be a good idea to take on this programme. It will not be fair on yourself. However, if that really is the situation, please discuss with us, and perhaps together, we can come up with a workable solution or alternative.
Yes, you can attend the Saturday workshop. On this day we will be exploring the topic from a broader perspective that is relevant to everyone, even if they are uncertain of their enneagram type or unfamiliar with the enneagram framework.
The more type specific programmes however, may be unsuitable for you. However, please do contact us and discuss your situation, so that we can advise you more specifically. There are, for example, some situations where - given enough time, your enneagram typing can be done and you can potentially qualify for the more specific programmes.
You will have access to the replay of certain segments of the workshop, via the review module that is included in this programme. This will, however, not be a full replay of the workshop. However, not to worry, whatever else one may feel the need to review, will be provided in the supplementary post workshop review module.
The segments that are made available for replay are usually teaching segments or discussions with the teachers, that does not include participant interaction. The careful editing prior to release is to protect the privacy of the participants.
Except in very particular circumstances, participants themselves are not permitted to record. Not only would that be a breach in trust for all concerned, but it is also usually unnecessary. These workshops are designed to be experiential. Unlike webinars and academic presentations, these workshops are to be relaxed into, so that information can be received naturally, via all domains of intelligence. It would not serve much purpose to have the full workshop replay. It is much more important to be fully present when there, and take in the experience in the moment, in such a way that it lasts.
As a standing policy, all workshops are reviewed by the programme director and authorised QR team, to assess outcome and quality, to plan for improvements and future programmes, to address requests and feedback from participants. The workshop recording essential to this process.
Over and above this general reason, specifically in relation to this workshop, recordings will be used to:
- make available selected replay segments for inclusion in post-workshop review module
- revisit participant comments and feedback that may have come up, to address either with them personally or to include discussion of these in the the supplementary post-workshop module
- summarise key themes and perspectives that were covered in the workshop
- to identify potential gaps in the workshop (eg. due to time constraints), that can be covered or addressed in the supplementary module
NB -- All recordings are strictly managed by the programme director, who is the only one who has access. Recordings are saved directly onto a local hard-drive, in a secure system. Any replay material provided is carefully edited to maintain participant confidentiality, and access to any replays are restricted to authorised participants only, within the parameters of the programme they are participating in.
Surprisingly, the virtual-online platform can also provide a depth of experience that is rich and fulfilling. Obviously, the experience is not the same, as it would be in an in-person setting, and one can miss experience of being in a venue with others. However, we have found from experience and feedback from participants, that they have often been surprised at how deep their experiences are, and the level of connection and support with the facilitators and the group. Interestingly, the lack of physical venue helps one focus on the "energetic venue" that everyone is experiencing.

The following payment gateways are available for debit / credit card payments.

How to choose and where to change (currency, gateway options):
- The prices are set to USD by default, so PayPal will be the default gateway. (For those who wish to use their PayPal account, rather than their card, they can do so.)
- Sometimes one may prefer not to use PayPal (especially if it is enforcing paypal account setups, which may happen in certain regions). If this is the case, use the PayFast gateway instead.
- To use the PayFast gateway the currency must be switched to ZAR. This can be done on the checkout page (option is just below the checkout button at the bottom of the page). The equivalent ZAR amount will be displayed, and you can check out using your debit or credit card.
